ROBERT and SUSANNA (  ) SMITH, my 9th Great-Grandparents. They are buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Hampton, New Hampshire.

According to the "History of Hampton", pg 978, Robert Smith was of Exeter, NH, and was a signer of the Combination in 1639. As early as 1657, he had settled in Hampton. A marriage date, and maiden name of his wife Susanna, is unknown.

The inscriptions on the stones read:
ROBERT SMITH "DYED 30 AGUSt 1706 AGED 95"

SUSANNA SMITH "DYED JUN 12, 1680 AGED 71"

Below is the entry in the old Hampton town record books [Book 2, pg 255], which states:
Susanna ye wife of Robert
Smith slaine with thunder: 12: 4 mo 1680
["4 mo" was the month of June in the Quaker calendar - they replaced, with numbers, the months and days of week that were named after pagan gods]
